Steady Me

Hello Harvest South Bay!
Thanks for those who responded to the LOVE INC. need this last Sunday. For those of you who were not in service, we were approached by a local woman in need in bridging her rent this month. The need was $700 and it was confirmed by Love Inc. Some of our congregation have helped meet the need but not to the full amount, so if you feel the Lord leading you to help, please let me know.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, register for the Harvest Summer Retreat asap so we can get a head count. I know that some of our members can only make it Friday morning, but if you can make it Thursday night, all the better because then you’re assured to not miss any of the program! Let me know if you need another registration form, they are in abundance in the foyer and if you want to really be on top of things, I can email you a PDF.

Again, here are this week’s notes!

Steady Me
Follow My Lead: 1 Timothy 1:18-20

Exposition

The Command: The command is the same command found in 1 Timothy 1:5 (it is actually the same word in the Greek): to have love for God and love for others through the power of the gospel.

The Command Breakers: Alexander and Hymanaeus

a. They are believers

b. They are believers under the discipline of God

Three Encouragements to Stay Steady

1. The news of the Gospel is Precious: we need to stay faithful to the message of the Gospel because it is precious to God.

2. The news of the Gospel Keeps Us Pure: the more consistent in life and in testimony we are to the gospel, the more confident we can be, since we are purely in line with the will and plan of God.

3. The news of the Gospel Keeps Us Protected: Once we start to advocate living by another dynamic other than loving through the power of the Gospel, we become at risk of God’s corrective discipline.

Weekly Application Exercises
1. Reflect on what spiritual movements you have observed which have been initially exciting but which have yielded no long term fruit. Which have actually been detrimental to Christians you have known?

2. How can you grow in loving others in tangible, impactful ways- not just those you know, but in loving strangers and those not able to reciprocate? How do you see God’s love at work in and through  you?
