Chase Freedom Card - $250 Sign Up Bonus

March 15, 2007 - Category: Credit Cards, Deals & Offers

Chase is currently running a promotion on their Freedom Card.  The card offers 3% cash back on purchases at grocery stores, gas stations, and quick service food locations.  All other purchases earn 1% cash back.

If you still don’t have a rewards credit card, now is the time to sign up for one.  And if you apply now, you will get a $250 sign up bonus after your first purchase.

Go here to read more at Fatwallet, where I found the deal.

Gas At $3.00 - Don’t Fret, Get Smart

March 8, 2007 - Category: Credit Cards, Frugal Living

Gas is back up at $3.00 a gallon here in Southern California.  But something I never understand is when people complain so much about the price of gas and yet don’t even bat an eye at buying a latte or going out to lunch every day.

Personally I think there are much more effective ways of saving money than driving ten miles out of town just to save 10 cents on a gallon of gas.  Don’t waste your time and your money driving around trying to find the cheapest gas station.  Find the closest one, fill up, and get home.  Maybe with the time saved you can devote it to packing lunch for tomorrow instead.

Also, if you haven’t gotten your hands on a 5% cash back card, get one now.  No matter what income level we are at, we all fill up gas and buy groceries on a consistent basis.  Why not get some kickbacks from it.  Here’s some few credit cards that will get you 5% back:

Chase Cash Plus Rewards (I have this card but I’m not sure if its still available).
Citibank Driver’s Edge.
Discover Gas Card.
Shell Mastercard.

Citi PremierPass Card With 15,000 TY Points And No Annual Fee

January 26, 2007 - Category: Credit Cards

I just saw this yesterday in a Fatwallet thread. If you travel a decent amount this is a great card to have. Here’s some of the perks:

- 15,000 sign up bonus Thankyou Network points
- 1 point for every mile you fly (e.g. Buy a ticket to Asia and receive points for both the purchase and for the actual flown miles.)
- 2 points for purchases at supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations.
- No annual fee (I have this card and my terms and conditions include a $75 annual fee. I think I’ll close my account soon and re-open with this offer.)

Free iPod Nano From MBNA Recieved

December 21, 2006 - Category: Credit Cards, Deals & Offers

Back in September I posted this deal on Fatwallet, that if you sign up for the MBNA MLB Extra Bases Credit card and spend at least $2,000 or balance transfer $2,000 within 90 days, they will send you a free iPod Nano. I received my free Nano yesterday. Unfortunately, the waiting time felt like an eternity. They say 8-12 weeks and I just received mine exactly 11 weeks after I initiated my balance transfers.

5% Cash Back Credit Card Still Exists

November 21, 2006 - Category: Credit Cards, Deals & Offers

As I mentioned in this post, the Chase Cash Plus Rewards card gives you 5% cash-back at gas stations, supermarkets, and drug stores. The link no longer exists so you must call 1-888-787-0329 and tell them the code 2YL or TP7. On top of that you get a $100 sign up bonus after you first purchase. This is a lot better than the Citibank Thankyou network because you can still request cash checks once you reach $50.00. I’ve been using this card since March.

AMEX SimplyCash 5% Gas, Wireless Service, Office Supplies

October 26, 2006 - Category: Credit Cards, Deals & Offers

Another good find on Fatwallet tonite. Looks like American Express has a new business credit card out that gives 5% back on gas, wireless service, and office supplies and 1% on all other purchases. Instead of dealing with points or rebate checks, it looks like you recieve a credit on your bill automatically. I have other 5% cashback cards for gas but this will be nice for my Cingular wireless service. Check it out: Link.

Citi PremierPass Bonus 15,000 Points

October 25, 2006 - Category: Credit Cards, Deals & Offers, Travel

I just got my 15,000 Thankyou Points signup bonus from my Citi Business PremierPass card. Click here to sign up for the card. This is a great credit card if you travel a fly a decent amount each year. In addition to getting points for your purchases, you also get points for all the miles you fly. The caveat is that in order to redeem your “flight points” you need to spend that much in dollars for them to match it. (e.g. if you fly 1,000 miles then you need to spend $1,000 to get a total of 2,000 TY points.) It would be nice if this card was a cash-back program, but there are decent redemption awards in the Citibank Thankyou Network. From Fatwallet and Flyertalk it seems that using your TY Points for award tickets is the best value in redeeming these points. Here’s a table of award tickets you can redeem:

Restricted Ticket (Coach) - Mexico and Caribbean “30,000″
