Our History

Harvest South Bay is a ministry of the Evangelical Formosan Church (EFC) and is the English speaking ministry of EFC South Bay. We have three congregations: Taiwanese, Mandarin, and English. Our church vision is to build a disciple-making community to reach the unreached in the South Bay of Los Angeles.

The Evangelical Formosan Church denomination began in Los Angeles in 1965. The church initially focused on Taiwanese immigrants and then extended to the next generation of English-speaking American Born Chinese (ABC) and then to Mandarin Immigrants. The South Bay church formally started on December 1, 1979. The English ministry started in September 1981. In its early stages, laypeople and part-time staff ran the English ministry, and, over the years, the English ministry grew from a high school/junior high school ministry into young couples and family church.

The current EFC church staff includes Taiwanese Pastor Isaac Hsu, Mandarin Pastor Daniel Shiao, English Pastor Peter Lee, and Friday night Children’s Ministry Program Leader Joanna Huang. Our Impact youth group is being led by Deacon Eric Carmody and his wife Keilyn.
